Loved the movie and since this was in town on our 22nd Anniversary we were excited to go see it. Boy, were we disappointed. The play changed so much of the story (which is to be expected to some extent) that if felt like we were watching something different. The heart of the movie was lost, the happy innocence missing. The sweetness of Emily (mom) gone, Jovie literally calls herself a bitch (caused the audience to gasp in shock), and Papa Elf was no where to be seen. The actor playing Buddy left a lot to be desired, the heart and innocence of the character must have been left in his dressing room, because it was no where to be seen on stage. The rest of the cast were actually very good, especially when you factor in the material they had to work with. We see about 8-10 shows a year. This is the first time in our lives we have ever left a performance early. We went home and watched the movie. We spent $80 per ticket. A lot of money to waste on a terrible show.
